About Cotopaxi

We make exceptional outdoor gear so that we can make a difference in the world. Our social impact strategy focuses on global poverty alleviation, and we strive to employ responsible sourcing and manufacturing practices throughout our supply chains. Our impact revolves around sustainability, equality, and ending extreme poverty. These pillars intersect and inform each other, as climate change and social inequalities contribute to systemic poverty.

How We Make A Difference

Giving is core to our model. We tie our earnings to impact by allocating 1% of annual revenues to the Cotopaxi Foundation. Through our foundation, we award multi-year grants to outstanding nonprofit partners like the International Rescue Committee (IRC), Mercy Corps, and Nothing But Nets—organisations carefully selected for their track records at improving the human condition. We focus on health, education, and livelihoods—areas that have the highest potential to address systemic poverty.

Ethics & Sustainability

Environmental impact starts with design. When creating products, our team goes the extra mile to source non-virgin and alternative fabrics that are better for the environment. We committed to making all of our gear using recycled, repurposed, or otherwise responsible materials by 2025, and we achieved this goal in 2024.

Mt. Cotopaxi

One of the world's highest active volcanoes, Cotopaxi (koh-toh-PAHK-see) in Ecuador had a major presence in our founder’s childhood. The mountain’s glacial streams, wild llamas, and countless trails inspired him to found an outdoor gear company.

Why Llamas?

These headstrong herd animals live in some of the most rugged regions of the Andes. They’re hardy, sociable, fiercely loyal, curious, and eccentric—kinda like us.
